BJP Condemns Preventive Arrests of Party Leaders in Telangana

Hyderabad, May 20 (TNT): The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday condemned the preventive arrests of its leaders and workers following a call given by State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao to submit memorandums to District Collectors and Deputy Tahsildars demanding support for farmers through procurement of their grain produce.

In a statement issued here, BJP State chief spokesperson and media in-charge N.V. Subhash alleged that police arrested BJP State General Secretary Dr N. Gautam Rao along with several party leaders and workers across various districts in the name of preventive custody.

He termed the arrests “highly condemnable.”

Subhash alleged that the Congress government was unwilling even to accept memorandums submitted by the BJP.

“In a democracy, opposition parties have a responsibility to hold protests and bring public grievances to the government’s attention,” he said, demanding that the State government immediately stop arresting BJP leaders under the guise of preventive detention.

Meanwhile, heavy police deployment was reported at the residence of BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao, who is currently in Delhi.
