BEL to invest Rs 2,500-cr in Andhra Pradesh defence ecosystem
Vijayawada, Oct 25 (TNT): Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Central government-owned Navratna company, will invest Rs 2,500 crore across 914 acres in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh to establish a defence manufacturing ecosystem, State IT and Real-Time Governance Minister Nara Lokesh announced on Sunday.
In a post on the social media platform X, Lokesh said the investment would bring high-technology defence manufacturing facilities to the region and generate around 800 skilled jobs for local youth.
The project is also expected to create a supplier base in the Rayalaseema region, supporting ancillary industries and strengthening the state’s defence manufacturing capabilities, he said.
“We said it, and we did it!” Lokesh said, highlighting the investment as a step towards developing Andhra Pradesh into a defence manufacturing hub.
