Hyderabad, May 2 (TNT): Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C. V. Anand on Saturday directed traffic police to perform their duties efficiently while ensuring minimal inconvenience to the public, especially during VIP convoy movements.
The directive comes in the wake of recent accidents on the Outer Ring Road and complaints from motorists about prolonged traffic stoppages.
In a release, the DGP said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had expressed concern over such incidents and instructed that traffic should not be halted for extended periods for convoy movement.
Chairing a review meeting with Joint Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Police (Traffic) under GHMC limits, the DGP emphasised the need for better coordination among departments to ensure effective traffic management across Hyderabad.
He advised officers to adopt dynamic strategies to handle increasing traffic volume and implement strict control measures wherever required.
The DGP also announced that the state government is in the process of establishing a Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau to strengthen road safety systems, which is expected to become operational soon.
He instructed officials to intensify enforcement drives against violations such as drunk driving and non-compliance with helmet and seat belt rules, and to conduct regular inspections to ensure adherence to traffic regulations.
Senior officials, including Future City Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Chandana Deepti and several Traffic DCPs, attended the meeting.
