Around 27 students fall ill after suspected food poisoning at Nagarkurnool Gurukul; TGHRC takes suo motu cognisance
Hyderabad, July 10 (TNT): Around 27 students of a Tribal Welfare Boys Gurukul at Mannanur village in Amrabad mandal of Nagarkurnool district were hospitalised after allegedly suffering food poisoning following breakfast served at the hostel, officials said on Friday.
The students reportedly complained of stomach pain and vomiting shortly after consuming breakfast on Thursday. They were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, while a few others were treated at the Mannanur Primary Health Centre.
District officials visited the hospital, reviewed the condition of the students and assured their parents that all necessary medical care was being provided.
Hospital authorities said the condition of the students was stable and that most of them were likely to be discharged soon.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident based on media reports published in Telugu newspapers Eenadu and Namaste Telangana.
The Commission has directed the Nagarkurnool District Collector to submit a detailed report on the circumstances leading to the incident, the health status of the affected students, findings of the official inquiry, results of food and water sample analysis, action taken against those responsible, if any, and measures initiated to prevent recurrence.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on August 11, 2026.
