Apollo Medical College Holds Graduation Ceremony for 141 Medical Students
Padma Shri Dr. B. Soma Raju, renowned cardiologist, founder of CARE Hospitals and Consultant and Mentor Director – Cardiology at Sindhu Hospitals, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
A total of 97 undergraduate and 44 postgraduate students received their degrees. Since its inception in 2012, the institution has produced more than 700 graduates, with over 90 per cent of its alumni securing postgraduate seats in medical colleges across the country or residency programmes abroad, according to the institution.
The prestigious Chairman’s Medal, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy’s Gold Medal, for the best outgoing undergraduate student was awarded to Maya Devi Kocherlakota of the 2020 batch while Dr. Samudrala Kavya of the Department of General Medicine received the medal for the best outgoing postgraduate student.
The Dr. K.V.R. Prasad Memorial Gold Medal, instituted in memory of senior physician late Dr. K.V.R. Prasad, was presented to Vellore Sarvan Sri Ramya.
Addressing the graduating students, Dr. Soma Raju highlighted the contribution of Dr. Prathap C. Reddy to the development of private healthcare in India.
He urged the graduates to pursue continuous learning, teamwork and compassionate patient care, emphasising that technical skills and scientific knowledge must be complemented by human understanding.
He observed that artificial intelligence and modern technology had made medical knowledge more accessible, but empathy and the ability to understand patients’ circumstances, fears and needs remained irreplaceable.
He advised the graduates to practise with courage, humility and wisdom, acknowledge mistakes and seek second opinions whenever necessary.
Mr. Shiva Rama Krishnan, CEO of Apollo Knowledge, urged the graduates to embrace emerging technologies and continuously update their knowledge.
He said artificial intelligence was transforming healthcare by helping doctors analyse complex cases, interpret patient histories and improve clinical decision-making.
AIMSR Dean Dr. K. Manohar while addressing the students, said 34 MBBS graduates had secured first-class marks.
Of the 45 postgraduate students, 42 had passed, including 14 who secured first-class honours, he added.
He advised the graduates to maintain strong communication skills, show compassion towards patients and remain lifelong learners.
In her welcome address, COO Ms. Aparna Reddy said the ceremony marked an important milestone for the graduating batches as they embarked on professional careers as doctors, researchers and future healthcare leaders. She urged them to uphold the values of compassion and humanity and contribute meaningfully to society.
Apollo Medical College operates campuses in Hyderabad and Chittoor.
The Hyderabad campus received undergraduate recognition from the Medical Council of India in May 2017 and is developing postgraduate medical courses across 19 disciplines with 95 seats while th Chittoor campus admitted its ninth batch of 150 MBBS students in August 2024.
