AP: RINL strengthens canteen facilities at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant
Visakhapatnam, Aug 10 (TNT): Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, has undertaken a series of measures to strengthen hygiene, infrastructure and dining facilities at canteens across the plant.
The company provides subsidised canteen facilities at major production, operational and administrative areas of the plant for the benefit of its employees and contract workers.
RINL operates 17 canteens covering key locations, including Mills, SMS, Blast Furnace, ESF, FMD, COCCP, TPP, expansion areas and the Administration Building. Around 200 extension points have also been provided at various work locations to facilitate access to food, the Plant said in a release here on Monday.
An average of around 4,000 employees and contract workers avail the canteen facilities every day, with nearly 250 personnel engaged in their operation through specialised catering agencies, RINL said.
Over the past three months, sanitation and hygiene measures have been strengthened through regular inspections, deep cleaning, drainage maintenance, pest-control measures and carbolic acid spraying. Fly-catchers have also been made mandatory in kitchen areas.
Infrastructure improvements include installation of automatic door closures and restoration of hot-water geysers. Drinking water facilities have been strengthened with the restoration of 16 water purifiers, while regular cleaning of water coolers has also been introduced.
RINL said accountability of canteen contractors had been strengthened through formal instructions and closer monitoring of compliance with prescribed hygiene and sanitation standards.
The dining environment has also been improved through better lighting, ventilation and other supporting facilities to provide employees with a cleaner, safer and more comfortable environment.
The initiatives are part of RINL’s continued efforts to improve employee welfare and ensure hygienic surroundings and quality food at canteens across the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
