Amaravati, Oct 4 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan will jointly launch Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0–Amarajeevi Jaladhara works with an estimated outlay of Rs 30,156 crore at Proddatur (YSR Kadapa District) on Monday, aimed at providing safe drinking water to rural households across the State.

The works will be launched at M M Palle in Proddatur constituency, where the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are scheduled to lay the foundation stone at 10.35 am and later address a public meeting.

Since the coalition government assumed office, tap water connections have been provided to 7.44 lakh families in 4,933 habitations across the State, according to the government.

Under the Amarajeevi Jaladhara programme, the government aims to extend drinking water facilities to another 27 lakh families.

The government said the previous administration had submitted proposals worth Rs 26,000 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission and spent around Rs 2,600 crore over five years, with several works relying on borewells for temporary water supply.

After assuming office in 2024, Naidu and Pawan Kalyan renewed discussions with the Centre and worked towards extending the implementation period of the Jal Jeevan Mission until 2028, the government said.

The State government has now prioritised sustainable drinking water supply systems using reservoirs and other reliable water sources, it said.

The launch of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0–Amarajeevi Jaladhara is expected to mark the commencement of works under the Rs 30,156-crore project across the State.
