Puttaparthi (Andhra Pradesh), OCT 23 (TNT) : A two-day National Urological Surgical Workshop organized by the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, in association with the Urological Society of India (USI), commenced here on Friday.
Inaugurating the “SSSIHMS–USI CARES” workshop, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust Managing Trustee R. J. Rathnakar highlighted Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s enduring vision of delivering high-quality healthcare entirely free of cost to all, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or economic background.
Rathnakar recalled that this mission originated with the establishment of the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital in 1956 and has since expanded through multiple initiatives of the Trust, including the Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Hospital, which takes critical medical interventions directly to rural and underserved populations.
He emphasized that Sri Sathya Sai healthcare institutions have maintained uncompromising standards of medical quality, ensuring patients receive top-tier clinical expertise, modern infrastructure, and surgical treatment at zero expense.
The two-day workshop, held on October 23 and 24, brings together more than 15 eminent urological faculty members from across the country. Around 70 complex urological surgeries are scheduled to be conducted across eight operation theatres, offering a platform for advanced surgical skill-sharing and clinical collaboration.
This marks the second USI CARES initiative organized at Puttaparthi in 2026, following an earlier session held on February 20–21.
The surgical lineup encompasses a broad spectrum of advanced interventions, including male and female reconstructive surgeries, hypospadias correction, female sling procedures, PCNL and RIRS for urinary calculi, TURP, HoLEP, ThuLEP, bipolar procedures, laparoscopic and robotic reconstructive surgeries, as well as complex oncological procedures such as radical cystectomy and nephrectomy.
Welcoming the delegates, SSSIHMS Director Dr. Gurumurthy highlighted the institution’s urology department legacy and acknowledged the pioneering role of Prof. Dr. Bhatt in founding and shaping the specialty here.
Urological Society of India President Dr. Keshav Kumar, the first postgraduate trainee from SSSIHMS’s urology department, observed that while surgical hardware and medical technology are vital, the foundational values of compassion and selfless service nurtured at the institution remain its greatest asset.
SSSIHMS Joint Director Dr. Anil Kumar Mulpur called on visiting surgeons to sustain institutional engagement through regular knowledge-sharing, surgical mentoring, and clinical expertise to further strengthen the hospital’s free healthcare mission.
