Hyderabad, Apr 14 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Tuesday said B. R. Ambedkar laid the foundation of India’s democracy through the Constitution and called for united efforts to protect constitutional values and citizens’ rights.
Addressing Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary celebrations, the Deputy Chief Minister described him as a visionary leader whose contributions ensured equality, justice, and empowerment for all sections of society.
He said Ambedkar played a pioneering role in advancing women’s rights, including efforts to introduce the Hindu Code Bill, and worked towards labour welfare by reducing working hours from 12 to eight hours and supporting maternity benefits.
Highlighting Ambedkar’s contribution to democracy, Bhatti Vikramarka said the Constitution empowered citizens with voting rights and the ability to shape governance, while also guaranteeing freedom, equality, and human rights.
Taking a political stance, he alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party was attempting to weaken the Constitution and undermine democratic principles, warning that citizens’ rights could be at risk. He called upon people to unite in defence of the Constitution.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the state government was following Ambedkar’s ideals in governance, with a focus on social justice and inclusive development. Referring to the caste census initiative, he said it aligns with the vision advocated by Rahul Gandhi for equitable distribution of resources and political representation.
He claimed that Telangana has taken a lead in conducting a caste census in a constitutional manner and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding human rights and constitutional principles.
Bhatti Vikramarka urged people to support the government’s efforts to uphold Ambedkar’s vision and strengthen democracy.
