AP, Moscow sign MoC to develop smart mobility solutions for Visakhapatnam
Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 3 (TNT): The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Government of Moscow to collaborate on the development of a modern, technology-driven urban transportation system for Visakhapatnam.
The agreement was signed by GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg and Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development, during the 5th International Transport Summit in Moscow.
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat was present on the occasion.
The MoC follows Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh’s visit to Russia in June this year, during which discussions were held with Moscow’s transport authorities on cooperation in urban mobility, transport infrastructure and advanced technologies.
Under the agreement, the two sides will explore cooperation in intelligent traffic management systems, integrated and digital ticketing, artificial intelligence-driven transport planning, autonomous mobility technologies, sustainable and low-emission transport solutions, automotive and electronics manufacturing, energy storage systems, technology transfer and capacity building.
The partnership also envisages exchange of technical expertise, training programmes for officials and collaboration on urban transport data initiatives to improve traffic management, public transport efficiency, passenger information systems and digital mobility solutions.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana said the agreement reflects the state government’s commitment to developing Visakhapatnam into a globally competitive and future-ready city with an integrated transport network.
Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, S. Suresh Kumar, said the collaboration would facilitate sustained knowledge exchange and provide GVMC access to global expertise in urban mobility and digital transformation.
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat said the agreement, concluded under the guidance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, would help bring advanced technologies and international best practices from Moscow to Visakhapatnam.
The Andhra Pradesh government said it would work with GVMC and the Moscow administration to identify priority projects under the cooperation framework as part of its vision to transform Visakhapatnam into a clean, connected, accessible and technology-enabled global city.
