National conference on administrative, e-governance reforms to begin in Shillong on July 13

New Delhi, July 12(TNT): The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), in collaboration with the Meghalaya government, will organise a two-day national conference on “NextGen Administrative & e-Gov Reforms” in Shillong from July 13.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences Dr Jitendra Singh and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will address the inaugural session.

DARPG Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma and Meghalaya Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P. Ahammed will also participate in the inaugural session.

More than 300 delegates, including senior Central and State government officials, District Collectors, policymakers, domain experts, academicians and public administration practitioners, are expected to attend the conference.

The conference will deliberate on the future of public administration and digital governance through presentations on Prime Minister’s Award-winning initiatives (2023 and 2024), National Awards for e-Governance-winning projects, governance best practices from Meghalaya and DARPG-supported State Collaborative Initiatives in the North Eastern region.

The discussions will cover themes such as holistic district development, digital governance, cyber security, public service delivery, healthcare, education, banking, consumer protection, urban governance, rural development and technology-enabled governance.

A dedicated session will showcase governance initiatives undertaken by the Meghalaya government to improve service delivery and administrative efficiency.

Another session will focus on Prime Minister’s Award-winning initiatives, highlighting successful district-level innovations in areas including education, rural livelihoods, holistic development and the Aspirational District Programme.

The conference will also feature presentations on National Awards for e-Governance-winning projects demonstrating the use of emerging technologies in urban governance, healthcare, digital banking, pilgrimage management, Panchayati Raj, consumer protection and cyber security.

A separate session on the development of the North Eastern region will highlight initiatives of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC), including interventions in bamboo and agarwood value chains, tourism, infrastructure development and project monitoring.

The conference will conclude with presentations on DARPG-supported governance initiatives from Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, aimed at promoting technology-enabled public service delivery, digital governance and citizen-centric administration.

According to DARPG, the conference aims to facilitate the exchange of best practices, promote digital transformation in governance and encourage adoption of successful administrative models across States and Union Territories.
