Karimnagar AE held by Telangana ACB while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe

Hyderabad, July 10 (TNT): The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday evening caught a Panchayat Raj Assistant Engineer in Karimnagar district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant for extending an official favour.

The accused, Paidi Sathish, Assistant Engineer (Panchayat Raj), Choppadandi Mandal, who was previously posted as Assistant Engineer at Gangadhara Mandal, was trapped by the ACB’s Karimnagar Range Unit at around 5.05 pm.

According to the ACB, the officer had allegedly demanded the bribe to record measurements of cement concrete (CC) works executed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the Measurement Book (M-Book) and forward the records to the Deputy Executive Engineer for further processing.

In a release, the bureau said the tainted amount of Rs 10,000 was recovered from beneath the seat of the accused’s TVS Jupiter scooter.

The ACB alleged that the official had abused his position by performing his public duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain an undue advantage.

The accused is being arrested and will be produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Karimnagar.

Further investigation is in progress.
