Centre allocates Tadicherla-2 coal block to Singareni: Telangana Dy CM

Hyderabad, July 7 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Tuesday welcomed the Centre’s decision to allocate the Tadicherla-2 coal block to the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), saying it would strengthen the company’s long-term coal production and sustainability.

In a statement, Bhatti said the allocation followed sustained efforts by the Telangana government over the past two years to secure additional coal blocks for Singareni.

He said he had met the then Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi on March 7, 2024, seeking allocation of the Tadicherla-2 block. Similar requests were later made to Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy during coal block auctions held in Hyderabad in June 2024, again on November 27, 2024, and during his visit to New Delhi in May this year.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had also raised the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that the Tadicherla block and other coal blocks be allotted to Singareni.

Bhatti thanked Prime Minister Modi and Union Minister Kishan Reddy for approving the allocation and urged the Centre to allot more coal blocks in the Singareni command area.

He said the allocation would provide Singareni with a long-term mining opportunity and support its expansion plans.

Located in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, the Tadicherla Open Cast-II block has total geological reserves of about 434.14 million tonnes, of which around 340 million tonnes are estimated to be extractable, according to the Deputy Chief Minister.

He said the mine is expected to produce around 10 million tonnes of coal annually and contains G-9 grade coal.

Bhatti said the project is expected to generate employment for around 3,000 people, directly and indirectly, while contributing to the economic development of the Bhupalpally region through improvements in rail, road and other infrastructure.

He also said the additional coal production would help ensure long-term fuel security for the state’s industrial and power sectors and support Singareni’s target of achieving annual coal production of 100 million tonnes.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said the state government had revived the Naini coal block in Odisha by securing the required statutory clearances and commencing coal production after the project had remained stalled due to pending approvals.
