Hyd: Swami Vivekananda Vanam inaugurated at Cherlapalli prison colony
Hyderabad, Aug 27 (TNT): The Telangana Prisons Department has inaugurated Swami Vivekananda Vanam at the Prisoners’ Agricultural Colony (PAC), Cherlapalli on Thursday, as part of its rehabilitation and welfare initiatives for inmates.
Swami Bodhamayananda Ji, Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad, inaugurated the Vanam in the presence of Dr Soumya Mishra, IPS, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Telangana, senior prison officials, staff and inmates.
The facility has been developed as a green and peaceful open-air space where inmates can spend time in a calm environment.
Yoga, meditation and positive-thinking sessions are planned to be conducted at the Vanam to help inmates manage stress, overcome negative thoughts and develop a constructive mindset.
Speaking on the occasion, Swami Bodhamayananda Ji highlighted the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, particularly his messages of strength, courage, self-confidence and universal brotherhood.
He urged inmates to respect all people equally, rise above social differences and cultivate honesty, courage and inner strength.
Positive thoughts, responsible choices and good actions could help bring about meaningful change in their lives, he said.
He also appreciated the Telangana Prisons Department for its initiatives in education, vocational training, rehabilitation, spiritual development and character building.
Dr Soumya Mishra said the Vanam reflected the department’s commitment to helping inmates develop a positive attitude and rebuild their lives.
She said the green surroundings and peaceful atmosphere would provide inmates an opportunity to relax and reflect.
The planned yoga, meditation and positive-thinking sessions would further support their mental well-being and rehabilitation, she added.
At the end of the ethical values lecture, Swami Bodhamayananda Ji donated books to the Prison Library and encouraged inmates to develop reading habits for knowledge, self-improvement and positive thinking.
