Telangana Committed to Minority Welfare, Development: Dy CM Bhatti Vikramarka
Hyderabad, June 18 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday said the state government was committed to the social, economic and educational development of minorities and was implementing welfare initiatives with substantial budgetary support.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on minority welfare at the State Secretariat, Bhatti directed officials to expedite the construction of minority residential schools and strengthen measures for the protection of minority lands.
The Deputy Chief Minister announced that Mushairas would be organised across district headquarters as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Urdu Academy, with the main event scheduled to be held at LB Stadium in Hyderabad.
Officials informed the meeting that 20 minority residential schools had been completed and were ready for inauguration, while construction of another 17 schools was in progress.
Bhatti instructed officials to prepare a timeline and ensure speedy completion of the remaining works.
He also said that under the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme, financial assistance would be extended to minority youth to promote self-employment and economic independence.
In addition, ₹50 crore would be allocated for the welfare of Christian minorities, particularly to support self-employment initiatives among youth.
The Deputy Chief Minister directed officials to take legal measures to protect Waqf and other minority lands from encroachments and emphasised the need for constructing compound walls around minority burial grounds.
He also instructed district collectors to identify and allocate land for new burial grounds in districts and divisional headquarters with sizeable Muslim populations.
Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, who attended the meeting, invited the Deputy Chief Minister to participate in a special programme on the ninth day of the upcoming Moharram celebrations in Hyderabad.
Bhatti accepted the invitation and assured his participation.
Senior officials and chairpersons of various minority welfare organisations also attended the review meeting.
