Telangana Govt Hikes DA for Power Employees, Pensioners by 1.621%

Hyderabad, June 17(TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday approved a 1.621 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees, artisans and pensioners of power utilities, benefiting over 70,000 personnel associated with the state’s electricity sector.

The decision was taken during a review meeting with Energy Department officials at Vidyut Soudha.

With the latest revision, the DA will increase from 17.651 per cent to 19.272 per cent, with retrospective effect from January 1, 2026.

The enhancement will impose an additional financial burden of approximately ₹9.35 crore per month on the government.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the government was committed to the welfare of power sector employees and pensioners and approved the proposal considering their contribution to maintaining uninterrupted power supply across the state.

Reviewing the performance of the power sector, Bhatti  lauded officials and employees for ensuring continuous electricity supply during the summer season despite record-breaking demand.

He noted that Telangana recorded a peak power demand of 18,548 MW on March 27, the highest ever in the state’s history, but the power utilities successfully met the demand through advance planning without any disruption in supply.

The Deputy Chief Minister also expressed satisfaction over the management of record electricity consumption of 341 million units (MU) on March 13, 2026, while maintaining uninterrupted supply to all categories of consumers.

Looking ahead, he directed officials to prepare a comprehensive power sector development plan for the next decade, taking into account the state’s rapidly growing electricity requirements.

According to projections reviewed during the meeting, Telangana’s peak power demand is expected to rise to 34,137 MW by 2035-36, nearly double the current peak demand. Annual energy consumption is also projected to increase substantially to 152,626 million units during the same period.

Emphasising the need for long-term preparedness, Bhatti instructed officials to strengthen generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure to meet future demand and ensure reliable power supply.

With the monsoon season approaching, he directed officials of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGSPDCL), Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TGNPDCL) and Telangana Transmission Corporation to remain on high alert.

The Deputy Chief Minister instructed field-level officers, engineers and technical staff to respond swiftly to power disruptions caused by heavy rains, thunderstorms or strong winds and restore services without delay.

He also directed officials to implement all necessary precautionary measures to prevent electricity-related accidents during adverse weather conditions and ensure public safety.

Senior officials, including Special Chief Secretary Naveen Mittal, Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, and other senior officers of the state’s power utilities, attended the review meeting.
