Telangana CM warns of strict action over Dam lapses, Orders Monsoon Preparedness Measures Across state
Hyderabad, June 1 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday warned of strict action against officials if any dam-related issues arise during the forthcoming monsoon season and directed departments to intensify preparedness measures across the state.
Reviewing monsoon preparedness with senior officials, the Chief Minister ordered immediate repair and maintenance of dam gates across Telangana and said all works should be completed before the onset of heavy rains.
Noting that ₹300 crore had already been released for the purpose, he cautioned officials against any negligence in maintaining irrigation infrastructure.
On the agriculture front, Revanth Reddy directed officials to guide farmers on crop planning based on weather forecasts and promote crop rotation, crop diversification and cultivation of water-efficient crops through Rythu Vedikas.
He also suggested the use of AI-generated videos and television broadcasts to create awareness among farmers on scientific farming practices.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure adequate availability of seeds and fertilisers and said the state government would request the Centre to allocate the entire production of urea from the Ramagundam fertiliser plant to Telangana.
Reviewing assurances made during his visits to flood-affected districts last year, he directed officials to submit reports on pending commitments, their implementation status and reasons for delays.
He warned that disciplinary action would be initiated against officials found negligent in executing the announced measures.
Emphasising the need for swift disaster response, Revanth Reddy said compensation to families affected by floods, heatwaves and other natural calamities should be provided without delay.
He noted that ₹1,000 crore was available with the Disaster Management Department for emergency works, including road repairs, bridge reconstruction and restoration activities.
To prevent urban flooding, the Chief Minister directed civic authorities to expedite the construction of rainwater harvesting wells at identified waterlogging locations in Hyderabad. Of the 141 sites identified, 11 wells have already been completed, while work on the remaining locations is in progress.
Senior IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan was asked to closely monitor and periodically review the progress of the works.
The civic authorities were also instructed to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply in Hyderabad and other parts of the state even if drought-like conditions prevail.
Officials informed the meeting that there were currently no concerns regarding drinking water availability.
The Chief Minister further directed the Energy Department to keep all necessary equipment ready ahead of the monsoon and ensure immediate restoration of power supply in the event of transformer failures or damage to electricity lines caused by heavy rains and strong winds.
Stressing inter-departmental coordination, Revanth Reddy asked District Collectors and Superintendents of Police to hold regular review meetings and work together to address public grievances promptly.
He said effective coordination among the Revenue, Police, Health, Energy, Panchayat Raj and Urban Development departments at the state, district and mandal levels was essential for efficient governance and disaster management.
The review meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narender Reddy, Director General of Police C. V. Anand and senior officials from various departments.
