TGSRTC Adds 60 New Electric Buses in Hyderabad to Boost Green Public Transport

Hyderabad, May 27 (TNT): Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) on Wednesday inducted 60 new electric buses into its Kukatpally depot fleet as part of efforts to promote eco-friendly and pollution-free public transportation in Hyderabad.

The buses were formally flagged off by Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar under the corporation’s Green Challenge initiative.

Speaking after the inauguration, the Minister said the large-scale introduction of electric buses was aimed at ensuring that Hyderabad does not face severe air pollution challenges in the future.

He said around 540 electric buses are currently operating within Hyderabad city, while nearly 1,050 electric buses are serving passengers across Telangana.

Addressing labour welfare issues, Ponnam  announced that recognition elections for RTC workers’ unions would soon be conducted, after which the RTC merger process would begin in consultation with the elected unions.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations and ensuring workers’ welfare.

The Minister also announced that special time would be allocated every second Tuesday to directly hear and resolve workers’ grievances.

TGSRTC Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy said advanced charging stations were being established at major depots and bus stations as part of the EV expansion programme.

He stated that the electric buses would provide passengers with comfortable, safe, noise-free and pollution-free transportation while also helping the corporation move towards profitability.

Nagi Reddy appealed to the public to support environmental protection efforts by encouraging the use of public transport.

Following the inauguration, the Minister, TGSRTC MD, Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao, MLC Naveen Kumar, Kamma Corporation Chairman Bandi Ramesh and Medchal District Collector Manu Choudary travelled in the newly launched buses.

Senior RTC officials, including Executive Directors CH Venkanna and Rajasekhar, also attended the programme.
