Tirupati: 300- beded advanced cancer care building to be inaugurated shortly: TTD In-Charge EO

Tirupati, Feb 4 (TNT):  TTD In-Charge Executive Officer Venkaiah Chowdary on Wednesday announced that a ₹120-crore Advanced Cancer Care Building, comprising 300 beds, five ICUs and ultra-modern medical equipment, will be inaugurated shortly, significantly enhancing oncology services at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) here.

Reaffirming its role as a major lifeline for the Rayalaseema region, the Institute is providing state-of-the-art cancer care across all stages of the disease, he said on the occasion of World Cancer Day held here.

Addressing a cancer awareness rally organised on the SVIMS campus here, Chowdary said the institute’s Cancer Department has been fully strengthened, with world-class facilities and expert specialists delivering care from early detection to advanced treatment.

As part of the World Cancer Day observances, SVIMS organised a cancer awareness rally, release of posters and pamphlets, and a poster exhibition, drawing wide participation from doctors, students and the public.

Highlighting preventive care, Chowdary said free cancer screening services are being extended to rural populations through two Pink Buses.

So far, 730 screening camps have been conducted, covering 42,609 people, with 3,226 patients referred to SVIMS and 759 patients receiving complete treatment, he added.

Addressing the gathering, SVIMS Director & Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.V. Kumar said cancer can be cured if detected early, urging people not to panic.

He noted that SVIMS has provided cancer care for over two decades, and with support from Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), now offers comprehensive Surgical, Medical and Radiation Oncology services.

He added that the Palliative Care Department is being strengthened to provide comfort-focused care for advanced cases.

Cancer treatment at SVIMS is provided free of cost under the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme, with additional expenses covered through the Pranadanam Scheme, ensuring access to care for economically vulnerable patients, he added.

Doctors from Radiation, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care led awareness sessions on common cancers and prevention on the occasion.

A student skit themed “Not Fear, But Responsibility Matters” received appreciation, while cancer survivors shared recovery experiences, highlighting the institute’s patient-centric care.
