Amit Shah Felicitates Telangana Police Officers for Making State Naxal-Free

Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh), May 18 (TNT): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday felicitated senior police officers from Telangana for their role in eliminating Left-Wing Extremism and making the state free from Naxal activity.

The honours were presented during a special event held in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, recognising officers who played a significant role in combating Maoist insurgency in affected regions.

Among those felicitated were Telangana Director General of Police (DGP)  C. V. Anand, State Security Advisor B. Shivadhar Reddy, DGP Operations (OCTOPUS & Greyhounds) Dr. Anil Kumar, and Malkajgiri Commissioner and former SIB IGP ms Sumati along with the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) team led by her.

The Union Home Minister congratulated the officers for their dedicated service and contribution towards curbing Left-Wing Extremism.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah reiterated the Union Government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism from the country and building a Naxal-free society.

He revealed that during an internal review meeting held in January 2024, the government had fixed March 31, 2026, as the target date for eliminating Naxalism nationwide.

“When we took this decision, many privately expressed doubts about whether such a goal could be achieved. However, we moved forward with a clear vision and strategy. Today, with the blessings of Goddess Danteshwari, I am delighted to announce that the Bastar region has been declared Naxal-free,” he said.

He described the achievement as a historic milestone in India’s long struggle against Left-Wing Extremism and noted that the country had faced the challenge of Naxalism for nearly three generations since the 1970s.

Amit Shah said Naxal-affected regions had suffered from violence, developmental stagnation and uncertainty for youth, adding that security personnel from almost every state had made sacrifices in the fight against extremism.

He stated that the success was made possible through coordinated efforts, determination and perseverance by security forces and governments working together.

Senior officials from the Centre, state governments and various security agencies attended the programme.
