BGU Samithi seeks strict enforcement of cow slaughter prohibition laws in Telangana
Hyderabad, May 13 (TNT): The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) on Wednesday submitted a representation to Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand, seeking strict implementation of laws relating to prohibition of cow slaughter and prevention of illegal cattle transportation across the State.
In the representation addressed to the DGP, Samithi President G. Raghava Reddy and general secretary Dr Ravinuthala Shashidhar, expressed concern over alleged large-scale illegal cattle smuggling from neighbouring states including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh into Telangana.
They urged the police department to intensify surveillance not only at State borders but also at district-level checkpoints to intercept vehicles involved in illegal cattle transportation.
They also alleged that negligence and indifferent attitudes among certain field-level personnel were contributing to the continuation of smuggling activities and sought strict disciplinary action against officials found neglecting their duties.
They further claimed that some veterinary doctors were issuing false age-verification certificates to facilitate the slaughter of young cattle and demanded criminal action against those involved in providing fraudulent documentation.
Seeking a crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses, they called for intensified enforcement particularly in sensitive areas, including parts of Hyderabad’s Old City.
The representation also requested the police department to invoke the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against habitual offenders and alleged kingpins involved in organised cattle smuggling syndicates.
