Uber Technologies announces expansion of Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, May 13 (TNT): Uber Technologies Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi on Wednesday announced the expansion of the company’s Centre of Excellence (CoE)in Hyderabad during a meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at his residence in Jubilee Hills here.
During the meeting, Dara Khosrowshahi briefed the Chief Minister on Uber’s business operations in Telangana and informed him that the Hyderabad-based Centre of Excellence — the company’s first such facility outside the United States, currently employs around 600 engineers.
The Uber CEO also expressed the company’s willingness to establish a corporate office in Bharat Future City and sought the Telangana government’s support for Uber’s future expansion plans in the State.
Welcoming Uber’s expansion plans, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy assured the company of full cooperation from the State government and encouraged it to explore solutions for the growing parking challenges in major urban centres.
The Chief Minister said vehicle parking had become a major issue in metropolitan cities and warned that the problem was likely to intensify further in the future.
He advised Uber representatives to focus on establishing multi-level parking facilities in identified locations.
Revanth Reddy also pointed out that inadequate parking infrastructure near Metro Rail stations was causing significant inconvenience to commuters and suggested that Uber consider developing integrated parking facilities along with electric vehicle charging stations.
Responding to the Chief Minister’s proposal, the Uber delegation said the company would conduct a study on the feasibility of establishing such facilities.
During the interaction, Revanth Reddy explained the vision behind the proposed Bharat Future City being developed near Hyderabad.
He said the futuristic urban project, spread across nearly 30,000 acres, was being designed as a globally unique city and that the government was inviting around 500 leading international companies to establish operations there.
The Chief Minister said several organisations had already shown interest in setting up operations in the Future City, which is located around 25 km from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.
He also noted that more than 100 companies participated in a global summit organised at the project site last December and expressed interest in investments.
Dara Khosrowshahi reiterated Uber’s interest in establishing a corporate office in Bharat Future City.
Uber Chief Business Officer Madhu Kannan, President of Uber India and South Asia Prabhjeet Singh, Chief Technology Officer Praveen Nippalli Naga and the Chief Minister’s Special Secretary Ajith Reddy were also present during the meeting.
