Hyderabad, May 11 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday said the Telangana government is committed to improving the living standards of workers across various sectors and making the state worker-friendly through scientific and practical wage reforms.
Chairing a Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting on revision of minimum wages at Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Praja Bhavan here, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government intends to ensure that wage revisions reflect the real-life needs of workers and are aligned with rising prices and increasing cost of living.
The meeting was attended by Ministers Gaddam Vivek Venkataswamy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy, Labour Commissioner Dasari Hari Chandana, Finance and Planning Secretary Gaurav Uppal and senior officials.
Bhatti said the committee examined minimum wage policies being implemented in several major states and also discussed the likely impact of the new Labour Code proposed by the Central Government.
The committee expressed the view that minimum wages should not be revised merely numerically, but should be structured to ensure meaningful economic support to workers.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the government would soon seek opinions from all stakeholders before taking a final decision on wage revision.
He said the proposed reforms are expected to benefit lakhs of workers in both organised and unorganised sectors across Telangana.
