Telangana Governor Nominates Minister Azaruddin and Prof.Kodandaram to Legislative Council

Hyderabad, Apr 26 (TNT): The Government of Telangana on Sunday issued orders for the nomination of two members –Minister and former Indian crticket captain Mohammad Azizuddin Azharuddin and Telangana Jana Samithi Founder M Kodandaram Reddy to the Telangana Legislative Council under the Governor’ s quota.

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has nominated Prof.Kodanda Rama Reddy and Azharuddin as members of the Legislative Council, according to G.O.Ms.No.71 issued by C Sudharsan Reddy, Chief Electoral Officer & E.O. Secretary to Government.

The nominations were made under Article 171(3)(e) of the Constitution of India to fill vacancies arising after the expiry ( May 27, 2023) of the terms of two members D. Rajeshwar Rao and Farooq Hussain, nominated by the Governor to the Telangana Legislative Council.

The tenure of the newly nominated members will be six years from the date of notification, as per the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

The notification will be published in an extraordinary issue of the Telangana Gazette, the order stated.

The nomination came just in time for Azharuddin, who was required to become a legislator within six months of being made a Minister, a deadline that expires on April 30, 2026.

The state cabinet had forwarded the names of Azharuddin and Kodandaram in August last year but the file did not move under then governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
