AP: PR Should Be Recognised as Fifth Pillar of Democracy: MLA Muralimohan

Tirupati, Apr 21 (TNT) : Puthalapattu MLA Kalikiri Muralimohan on Tuesday said public relations (PR) should be recognised as the “fifth pillar of democracy”, stressing that Public Relations Officers (PROs) play a key role in strengthening public confidence in the system.

Speaking as chief guest at the National Public Relations Day 2026 celebrations organised by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Tirupati Chapter, at Kautilya Institute in MR Palli here, Muralimohan said ethical PR practices are essential for building a better society.

“Respect for fellow human beings is the foundation of healthy relations. PR is the lifeblood of human existence and can be used to promote global peace,” he said.

Guest of Honour M. P. Narasimha Raju, Vice-Chancellor of Dhamma Deepa International Buddhist University, said PR acts as a unifying force among the four pillars of democracy -Legislature, Executive, Judiciary and Media – and noted that it begins at home, with women playing a vital role in society.

Director of Kautilya Institute, Sridhar, said effective PR helps individuals and institutions grow, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ as an example of strong public connect.

Senior advocate N. Yoganand said PR plays a crucial role in delivering legal services, while T. Madhusudhana, PRO of APSPDCL, described PR as a bridge between government policies and the public.

Assistant Editor of The Hindu, A.D. Rangarajan, said PR contributes to societal well-being by ensuring coordination among democratic institutions.

PRSI Tirupati Chapter Chairman Dr G.S. Prasad, Secretary D. Chandramohan, Treasurer K. Madhusudhan, former chairperson Dr C. Swarajya Lakshmi, members and students attended the programme.
