Polavaram, Apr 16 (TNT): A team from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) on Thursday carried out inspections and testing for the second consecutive day at the Polavaram Project, focusing on construction quality and material standards.
CSMRS scientists Lalit Kumar Solanki and Hanuman Prasad Meena examined rock formations at the site and assessed the quality of concrete being used in key structures, including ongoing grouting works at G-Hill. The team expressed satisfaction with the quality of concrete at the inspected locations.
The scientists conducted detailed assessments of concrete used in the diaphragm wall construction. Samples collected in block form were preserved and subjected to high-pressure water tests to evaluate water absorption levels.
Officials said the testing process replicated actual construction conditions, with concrete blocks covered using plastic sheets—similar to the protective measures adopted during on-site pouring of the diaphragm wall.
The results indicated that the concrete used meets required quality standards.
Senior officials, including Water Resources Department Executive Engineer D. Srinivas and representatives from Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd. (MEIL), briefed the CSMRS team on construction processes and quality control mechanisms being followed at the project.
Further quality evaluations were carried out at the Adco Laboratory set up by the Water Resources Department for material testing and inspection.
The CSMRS team reviewed ongoing procedures and testing protocols to ensure adherence to engineering standards.
The inspection forms part of continued monitoring efforts to maintain construction quality at the Polavaram Project, one of the key irrigation infrastructure projects in Andhra Pradesh.
