Hyd: Kavitha Demands Special Assembly Session on Fee Hikes, Alleges Nexus with Corporate Colleges

Hyderabad, Apr 4 (TNT): Telangana Jagruti President and former BRS MP, Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday demanded that the Telangana government convene a special Assembly session to address the issue of high fees charged by corporate educational institutions, alleging a nexus between the government and private players.

In a statement, Kavitha questioned why the government appears to favour such institutions while they impose a heavy financial burden on poor and middle-class families.

Drawing a comparison with the special Parliament session held for the Women’s Reservation Bill, Kavitha asked why similar urgency was not being shown in addressing the concerns of lakhs of families affected by rising education costs.

She called for the immediate introduction of a fee regulation law.

Kavitha also raised concerns over the delay in acting on a draft bill prepared by the Telangana Education Commission, noting that several months have passed since its submission.

She criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s silence on the issue and termed the government’s inaction as neglect of poor and middle-class citizens, adding that such indifference amounts to betrayal.

Alleging a nexus with corporate educational institutions, she said that despite the draft bill being ready, private institutions have continued to hike fees significantly while the government has allegedly kept the legislation on hold.

Kavitha questioned whether there were any understandings or agreements between the government and corporate education lobbies and said unchecked fee hikes are eroding the lifetime savings of common families.

She reiterated that if the government is sincere, it should immediately convene a special Assembly session and take concrete steps to regulate fees.
