Amaravati, Apr 2 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday termed it a “historic day” as the Amaravati Capital Bill is set to be approved in the Rajya Sabha, crediting the Centre’s support for its passage.
Addressing NDA leaders during a teleconference, Naidu said the Bill was introduced soon after the State Assembly passed a resolution in favour of Amaravati, with the support of the Central Government.
Calling Amaravati an emotional issue for the people, Naidu said the state had remained without a capital for five years.
He also criticised the previous government led by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy over its stance on the capital.
He said that once cleared by the Rajya Sabha, the parliamentary approval process would be complete, and urged people to celebrate the occasion across villages.
The Chief Minister said he would visit Uddandarayunipalem, where the foundation stone for the capital was laid, and participate in the celebrations.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said their support had ensured stability for the capital.
He reiterated that Amaravati would be the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh and added that a High Court bench would be established in Kurnool.
Meanwhile, Minister Nadendla Manohar termed the development a major achievement, while leaders of the Jana Sena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party said they would participate in celebrations later in the day.
