Telangana Dy CM highlights housing, metro, education initiatives in Budget debate

Hyderabad, Mar 30 (TNT):Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Monday outlined key welfare and development measures during the discussion on the Budget Appropriation Bill in the State Assembly.

Bhatti said the government is undertaking a housing programme worth ₹22,500 crore to ensure no poor person remains homeless, with ₹5 lakh allocated per unit, and added that Indiramma housing bills are being cleared on a weekly basis.

On urban infrastructure, he said the Hyderabad Metro Rail will be developed further to address traffic congestion, with a focus on expediting works in the Old City.

The Deputy Chief Minister said plans are underway to develop the Musi riverfront and key heritage sites such as Charminar, Golconda Fort and Laad Bazaar into major tourism hubs.

He assured that there would be no shortage of petrol, diesel or gas, and said measures are being taken to resolve waterlogging issues at key locations.

Bhatti said 39 sewage treatment plants have been sanctioned to ensure treated water flows into the Musi river, and added that underground electricity infrastructure will be implemented in phases in the Old City.

He said 25 new residential schools will be launched this year and a Telangana Public School will be established in every constituency.

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted increased allocations to universities, including ₹100 crore to Osmania University and ₹500 crore to Chakali Ilamma Women’s University.

He said welfare measures for students and retirees are being strengthened, with increased diet charges, continued overseas scholarships and monthly disbursal of retirement benefits.

On finances, he said the state is maintaining fiscal discipline and has cleared pending dues under centrally sponsored schemes.

Bhatti described the budget as a “people’s budget” focused on inclusive development and welfare.
