Union Budget 2026: FM Sitharaman proposes 7 High-Speed Rail Corridors; Hyderabad Emerges as Key Hub

 

New Delhi, Feb 1 (TNT): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday presented the Union Budget 2026 in the Lok Sabha, proposing the development of seven High-Speed Rail Corridors (HSRCs) across the country, aimed at transforming inter-city mobility and boosting economic integration.

Significantly, three of the seven proposed corridors connect Hyderabad, underscoring the city’s growing importance as a national transport and economic hub.

Proposed High-Speed Rail Corridors

Mumbai – Pune

Pune – Hyderabad

Hyderabad – Bengaluru

Hyderabad – Chennai

Chennai – Bengaluru

Delhi – Varanasi

Varanasi – Siliguri (Assam)

With direct rail links planned to Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai, Hyderabad stands out as the most connected city in the proposed HSRC network.

According to the Finance Minister, the High-Speed Rail Corridors are expected to reduce travel time between major economic centres; Promote regional development; Boost investments, employment, and urban growth;Strengthen India’s modern transport infrastructure.

The proposal marks a major push towards next-generation rail connectivity, positioning southern India particularly Hyderabad as a critical node in India’s future high-speed rail ecosystem.
