Hyderabad, Mar 5 (TNT): Hyderabad will host the Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifier from March 8 to 14 at the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium, with eight teams competing for a place in the Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026, Telangana Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium here, Srihari said the tournament, organised by the Fédération Internationale de Hockey, will feature teams from India, Austria, England, Italy, Korea, Scotland, Uruguay and Wales.
The matches will determine qualification for the Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026.
The Sports Authority of Telangana has completed arrangements for the event, including an international-standard astroturf pitch, security measures and accommodation for participating teams, the minister said.
All teams have arrived in the city and have begun training sessions at the Gachibowli venue.
Srihari said the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has been actively promoting sports development and international events in Telangana.
