BPCL to Build 56-km Dedicated ATF Pipeline to Rajiv Gandhi Intl Airport, Hyderabad, Telangana

Hyderabad (Telangana), Jan 27 (TNT) :  Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) on Tuesday signed an agreement with GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) to construct a dedicated Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) pipeline to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, aiming to strengthen fuel infrastructure and reduce dependence on road-based transportation.

BPCL’s project in Malkapur, Telangana, involves a key Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants (POL) installation and a major Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) pipeline. The project connects the Dandu Malkapur terminal to the GMR Hyderabad International Airport.

The 56-kilometre pipeline will run from BPCL’s Malkapur facility in Sangareddy district to the airport fuel farm, with about one kilometre passing through airport premises.

Once operational, the pipeline will function on a common carrier basis, ensuring uninterrupted and efficient fuel supply to one of India’s fastest-growing airports.

The agreement was signed by Sujit Kumar, BPCL Chief General Manager – Marketing (Aviation), and Ashish Kumar, GHIAL Chief Commercial Officer, at a ceremony in Goa, the corporation said in a release.

Highlighting the environmental benefits, BPCL said the project will significantly reduce carbon emissions by replacing large-scale road transportation of aviation fuel via tankers, while improving operational efficiency and safety.

“BPCL has been a pioneer in establishing aviation fuel facilities and allied infrastructure across Indian airports. This dedicated ATF pipeline reinforces our commitment to reliable fuel supply and reduced carbon emissions,” said Sanjeev Kumar, Business Head – Aviation, BPCL.

GHIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker added, “The common-use fuel transportation pipeline will enhance operational efficiency while contributing to lower emissions, which is critical for building a greener aviation ecosystem.”

Operating refineries at Mumbai, Kochi and Bina, with a combined capacity of 35.3 million tonnes per annum, the company has set a target to achieve net-zero emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2040.
