SVIMS Focuses on Quality Healthcare, Medical Education and Research : Dr Jagadesh
Addressing a comprehensive review meeting with Heads of Broad Specialty and other departments at Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women on Saturday, he stressed the need for close coordination among departments to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
Dr. Jagadesh said SVIMS aimed to develop into a medical university of national and international repute through sustained improvements in patient care, clinical training and scientific research.
He directed departments to prepare measurable action plans, maintain accountability and periodically review their performance.
Emphasising patient safety as the foremost priority, he called for early diagnosis, timely treatment, effective follow-up and better coordination in handling emergencies and critically ill patients.
He also stressed strict adherence to hospital infection control measures, safe medication practices, surgical safety protocols and blood transfusion precautions.
He directed doctors and healthcare professionals to communicate diagnoses, treatment options, potential risks and expenditure clearly to patients and their families.
Patient grievances, waiting times and satisfaction levels should also receive greater attention, he said.
On medical education, Dr. Jagadesh called for structured academic programmes, regular seminars, case discussions, journal clubs and clinical training. Heads of Departments were instructed to review postgraduate students’ academic progress, clinical training and research activities at least once a month.
Stressing the importance of research and innovation, he directed every department to identify at least three priority research areas and submit a comprehensive one-year research action plan.
He encouraged faculty members to seek national and international research grants, strengthen institutional collaborations and publish quality research in recognised scientific journals, while adhering to ethical standards and protecting patient confidentiality.
He also called for improvements in diagnostic services through timely investigations, accurate reporting, regular quality-control reviews and prompt communication of critical findings to treating doctors.
Better coordination among clinical departments, diagnostic services, nursing personnel and support teams was essential to improving treatment outcomes, he added.
Dr. Jagadesh further directed SVIMS Hospital to organise free rural medical camps and healthcare camps under the Pink Bus initiative in rural and agency areas, enabling underserved communities to access specialised and super-specialty medical services.
Emphasising transparency, discipline and accountability, he asked departmental heads to establish measurable performance indicators, use available resources effectively and address operational challenges without delay.
He said SVIMS administration would provide the necessary guidance and institutional support to implement departmental improvement plans.
All doctors, faculty members and employees should work collectively to ensure compassionate, patient-centred healthcare and strengthen the institution’s standing in medical education and research, he added.
