BJP asks Owaisi to take legal route if he has proof against ECI

Hyderabad, Oct 4 (TNT): Telangana BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N V Subash on Sunday asked AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi to approach the appropriate legal forum if he has evidence to substantiate his allegations of irregularities in the electoral process.

Reacting to Owaisi’s allegations that BJP and Sangh Parivar workers were allegedly submitting Form 7 applications to delete names of genuine voters, Subash said serious allegations against a constitutional authority should be supported by evidence and pursued through the prescribed legal process.

Subash said  Owaisi had alleged that printed Form 7 applications were being submitted with the names of persons sought to be deleted while leaving out details of those filing the applications.

Owaisi had urged the Election Commission of India, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer and District Electoral Officers to take note of the issue.

The BJP spokesperson said political parties and individuals could seek scrutiny of the functioning of constitutional institutions, but allegations concerning the electoral process should be supported by documentary evidence and raised before the competent authorities.

He said genuine discrepancies in electoral rolls should be identified, documented and challenged through the prescribed mechanism.

Referring to issues concerning the electoral process, including Electronic Voting Machines and the Special Intensive Revision, Mr Subash said several matters had already reached the judiciary and said any fresh and specific evidence could similarly be placed before the appropriate forum.

He said the BJP supported the identification and removal of ineligible and bogus entries from electoral rolls in accordance with law, while ensuring that every genuine voter retained the right to vote.

Subash said allegations concerning electoral rolls in Hyderabad should also be examined through the same legal and procedural mechanisms.

“If Owaisi has evidence, let him produce it. If he has a grievance, let him pursue the remedy provided by law. Political rhetoric cannot substitute for proof,” he said.
