Congress unable to accept Modi’s third term as PM: Telangana BJP Prez Ramchander Rao
Hyderabad, Oct 4 (TNT): Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Sunday criticised the Congress leadership over its remarks on the electoral process and alleged that the party was unable to accept Narendra Modi becoming Prime Minister for a third consecutive term.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters here, Rao said Congress had faced defeats in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections and alleged that its leadership was unable to accept the people’s mandate in favour of Mr Modi.
He criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s reported remarks questioning the validity of elections held in the country, saying that questioning the people’s mandate amounted to questioning the electoral process and democratic institutions.
Rao also alleged that Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, and others were attempting to undermine public confidence in constitutional institutions such as the Supreme Court, the President’s office and the Election Commission of India.
On the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Hyderabad, Rao rejected allegations raised by Congress and said the exercise was being carried out by the state government machinery under the supervision of the Election Commission.
He said submission of Form-7 applications did not automatically result in deletion of voters’ names and that objections were subject to field-level verification by election authorities.
Rao said the Form-7 mechanism was part of the prescribed process for raising objections to entries in electoral rolls, including alleged fake or duplicate entries.
He also claimed that BJP Booth Level Agents had not submitted such applications.
He said raising objections while the verification process was still underway was unwarranted and urged political parties to allow election authorities to complete the prescribed procedures.
The BJP state president alleged that Congress leaders had taken different positions on electoral processes depending on election outcomes, referring to their criticism of EVMs and SIR after electoral defeats.
He said the BJP would continue to raise issues concerning the electoral process and defend the functioning of democratic and constitutional institutions.
Rao also criticised Congress’s political strategy and said the BJP would oppose what he described as attempts to undermine public confidence in constitutional bodies and the electoral process.
