Telangana CM Revanth calls for building modern Telangana on legacy of struggles
Hyderabad, Sept 17 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom, self-respect and people’s rights should inspire the building of a modern and developed Telangana.
In his address at the Praja Palana Dinotsavam (People’s Governance Day), Reddy recalled the struggles against oppression, exploitation, feudalism and autocratic rule and paid tributes to the warriors who laid down their lives for Telangana.
He said September 17, 1948, marked the integration of the erstwhile Hyderabad State with the Indian Union following Operation Polo and recalled the contributions of leaders of the Telangana armed peasant struggle, including Ravi Narayana Reddy, Bhim Reddy Narasimha Reddy, Anabheri Prabhakar Rao, Chakali Ilamma, Arutla Kamaladevi and Mallu Swarajyam.
The Chief Minister said people’s governance meant giving importance to the voice of citizens, protecting their rights, resolving their issues and ensuring that government resources reached all sections.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives, Reddy said Telangana’s per capita income had reached ₹4,18,931, nearly 91 per cent above the national average.
He said crop loans of up to ₹2 lakh had been waived, with ₹20,616 crore released to benefit 25.35 lakh farming families. More than ₹36,000 crore had been deposited under Rythu Bharosa, he said.
The government had spent around ₹1.72 lakh crore on agriculture and farmer welfare during its 32 months in office and was paying a ₹500-per-quintal bonus for fine-variety paddy, Reddy said.
On women’s welfare, he said the government was working towards making 10 million women financially independent, while highlighting free RTC travel under the Mahalakshmi scheme and various women’s self-help group initiatives.
Reddy said more than 15 lakh new smart ration cards had been distributed and social security pensions provided to over 43 lakh people.
The government had sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses in the first phase of the Indiramma housing scheme and another 2.5 lakh houses in the second phase, he said.
On social justice, he said the state had conducted a comprehensive survey covering social, economic, educational, employment and political aspects and adopted bills providing 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes in education, employment and local bodies.
The bills had been forwarded for the President’s assent, he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted measures in education, healthcare and employment, including Young India Integrated Residential Schools, enhanced Rajiv Aarogyasri coverage and the recruitment of more than 72,000 government employees.
The Young India Skills University had also been established to meet emerging skill requirements, he said.
On infrastructure, Reddy said proposals had been submitted for a 122.9-km Metro Phase-II expansion at a cost of ₹38,595 crore, while approvals had been secured for airports at Adilabad and Mamnoor.
He also highlighted the 55-km Musi Rejuvenation Project.
Looking ahead, Reddy said the Telangana Rising Vision 2047 aimed to transform the state into a USD 3 trillion economy by 2047.
Bharat Future City was being developed as a net-zero smart city spread over around 30,000 acres, with specialised zones including AI, health, education, life sciences and electric vehicles, he said.
Reddy said development and welfare, self-respect, equality and social justice would remain the foundations of people-centric governance.
“We will not forget history. We shall not stop at history alone. Let us build a modern Telangana with the spirit of the past struggles,” he added.
