DRI seizes 231.8 kg suspected methamphetamine in Assam, Tripura
Guwahati, Sept 16 (TNT): The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 231.8 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets and arrested three persons in a coordinated operation in Assam and Tripura, the agency said on Wednesday.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted four trucks at multiple locations in the two states on September 15.
At Ramnathpur in Assam, around 100 km from Silchar, two suspected trucks were intercepted with the assistance of 38 Battalion, Assam Rifles.
Search of the vehicles resulted in the recovery of 275 packets weighing 55 kg and 271 packets weighing 54.2 kg of pinkish-orangish tablets suspected to be methamphetamine.
The tablets were concealed in the roofs of the drivers’ cabins.
One person was arrested and the two vehicles were seized under provisions of the NDPS Act.
In a simultaneous operation, a goods carrier carrying a declared load of cement was intercepted at Teliamura, around 45 km from Agartala, while travelling from Khowai towards Agartala, with the assistance of 28 Battalion, Assam Rifles.
Search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 295 packets containing 72.6 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets concealed in the roof of the driver’s cabin.
The contraband and vehicle were seized and the driver was arrested.
Further intelligence developed during the operation led to the interception of another truck near Panisagar in Tripura.
Search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of 50 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets, which were also concealed in the vehicle. The truck was seized and its driver arrested.
The coordinated operation resulted in the seizure of 231.8 kg of suspected methamphetamine tablets and four trucks, besides the arrest of three persons, the DRI said.
Earlier in August, the DRI had seized 76 kg of methamphetamine tablets in two intelligence-led operations near Silchar and Mizoram.
