Wealth from waste: Kakinada village grows organic vegetables using household garbage
Kakinada, Sept 11 (TNT): Kakinada Joint Collector Apurva Bharat on Friday inspected the functioning of the ‘Wealth from Waste’ centre at G Ragampeta village in Samalkot mandal, where household waste is being used to grow organic vegetables and produce vermicompost.
During his visit, the Joint Collector appreciated the village panchayat for adopting solid waste management practices and converting daily household garbage into useful products, thereby improving sanitation and generating income.
Bharat also purchased vermicompost powder for his personal use during the visit, surprising officials accompanying him.
Interacting with villagers, the Joint Collector said other village panchayats should emulate the G Ragampeta model and make effective use of household waste. Such initiatives would serve the dual purpose of improving sanitation and generating income, he said.
Peddapuram MPDO Suryanarayana, Panchayat Executive Officer Karneedi Srinivas, TDP village committee president and AMC Director Jaladani Subrahmanyam, Dusarlapudi Yesubabu, VRO Venkateswara Rao and panchayat staff were among those present.
