Telangana CM Revanth Warns Congress MLAs Performance Will Shape Political Future
Hyderabad, Sept 10 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday warned Congress MLAs that their performance and conduct would play a crucial role in determining the party’s electoral prospects in the next elections, while directing them to step up their presence in the ongoing Assembly session and raise constituency-level issues.
Addressing the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting here, Revanth thanked the legislators for their support during the government’s 1,000 days in office and asked them to attend the Assembly regularly and actively participate in debates.
The Chief Minister said the people had given the Congress a strong mandate and that MLAs needed to work hard to retain their political relevance.
The performance of every Congress MLA would determine the party’s success and their conduct would influence their chances of securing another term, he said.
Revanth also praised Congress legislators for countering what he described as a BRS conspiracy to disrupt the Assembly proceedings and stall the functioning of the government.
He alleged that BRS leaders had abused police officials and public representatives and used objectionable language against the Assembly Speaker.
He also criticised the opposition over an incident at KCR’s farmhouse, alleging that the ground was “purified” after Dalit members had walked there.
The Chief Minister said an inquiry into the incidents had already been initiated and alleged that the BRS had failed to accept its defeat in the elections.
Taking a political dig at BRS leaders Sunitha Laxma Reddy and Sabitha Indra Reddy, Revanth alleged that they were working against the Congress despite having received political opportunities from the party.
He also questioned BRS working president K T Rama Rao’s political motives.
On the caste census, the Chief Minister asked Congress legislators to mount pressure on the Centre to adopt the Telangana model and conduct a caste census alongside the general census.
He described Telangana’s caste census as a model for the country and an achievement of the state government.
Revanth Reddy also asked legislators to remain vigilant over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and work to protect the voting rights of people.
He claimed that around 15 crore adult voter names had been deleted across the country, pointing out that against an estimated adult population of 103 crore, the electoral rolls showed only around 88 crore voters.
