Tirupati: Sadu Subrahmanya Sastry’s Contribution to Epigraphical Research Recalled
Tirupati, Sept 10 (TNT): Eminent epigraphist Sorakayala Krishna Reddy on Thursday recalled the significant contribution of Sadu Subrahmanya Sastry to epigraphical research and his efforts in bringing the glory of Lord Venkateswara to the world.
Speaking at a programme marking Sastry’s 45th death anniversary at Annamacharya Kalamandiram here, Krishna Reddy said Sastry had collected and translated 1,167 copper-plate inscriptions while serving as Peshkar at the Srivari Temple.
He also played an important role in bringing several compositions of saint-poet Annamayya to light, Krishna Reddy said.
Retired Sri Venkateswara University Telugu professor Srinivasulu Reddy highlighted Sastry’s research skills and his contribution to Telugu literary research.
TTD officials paid floral tributes at Sastry’s statue opposite SVETA Bhavan.
Tributes were also paid to the statue of Gouripeddi Ramasubba Sarma at SV Oriental College on the occasion of his 104th birth anniversary.
Sastry’s daughter Girija Devi, grandson and High Court Registrar Murthy, SVETA In-charge Director Dr Vema Venkata Ratnam, Annamacharya Project Director Dr Latha, literary personality Gouripeddi Venkata Sankara Bhagavan and others participated in the programmes.
