Congress Should Stop Unnecessary Politics Over CM’s Foreign Trip: Telangana BJP Chief

Hyderabad, Aug 21 (TNT): BJP Telangana President N Ramchander Rao on Friday urged the Congress to stop what he termed “unnecessary politics” over the Centre withholding political clearance for Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States.

Addressing mediapersons at the BJP state office here, Rao said there was ‘ no political angle’  behind the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) withholding political clearance for the Chief Minister’s US visit.

He said the Union government had already granted permission to the delegation of officials accompanying the Chief Minister to travel to the US and hold meetings related to investments and agreements.

Rao said the MEA examines several factors before granting political clearance for foreign visits by Chief Ministers and Ministers, including the official necessity of the visit, background of inviting organisations, designation of attendees, international protocol, diplomatic considerations, security arrangements and FCRA regulations.

He cited instances from 2012 during the UPA government when the Centre rejected the foreign travel proposals of then Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to the US and Israel and then Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda to Thailand.

Rao also alleged that Congress MPs and leaders had written letters seeking denial of a US visa to Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

He cautioned against politicising the issue and said the Centre had not created hurdles during Revanth Reddy’s earlier foreign visits.

The current decision, he said, was taken in accordance with regulations and established procedural norms.

Earlier, Rao welcomed prominent doctors, including cancer specialist Dr Vijayender and Dr Pramod, Chairman of Meghana Hospital, LB Nagar, into the BJP.

The BJP state president inducted the doctors by presenting them with party scarves.

Rao said Dr Vijayender, a cancer specialist from Hyderabad with a postgraduate qualification in Social and Preventive Medicine and an organiser of the Cancer Rehabilitation Center, had built committees across all 33 districts through the Telangana Doctors Federation and rendered significant service.

He said Dr Vijayender’s decision to join the BJP along with efforts to mobilise fellow doctors was a positive development for the party.
