Hyd : NMDC Freedom run 2026 draws over 2,000 runners
Hyderabad, Aug 16 (TNT) : NMDC organised the NMDC Freedom Run 2026 across its operational locations in Karnataka and Chhattisgarh in association with the Hyderabad Runners Society (HRS), with more than 2,000 runners participating in the 5K runs.
The event was organised as part of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026, of which NMDC is the title sponsor.
The initiative brought together NMDC employees, their families and members of local communities to celebrate freedom, fitness and community participation.
The Freedom Run was conducted at Donnimalai in Karnataka, Bacheli and Kirandul in Chhattisgarh.
Donnimalai recorded around 700 participants, while Bacheli and Kirandul witnessed the participation of around 900 and 450 runners respectively.
As part of the initiative, NMDC identified 130 runners from different villages who will get an opportunity to participate in the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026.
The initiative seeks to extend the spirit of running beyond NMDC’s operational areas and provide wider community participation in the city marathon.
Speaking on the occasion, NMDC Project Head, Bacheli, Kodali Shridar said the Freedom Run reflected the organisation’s commitment to fitness, community engagement and inclusive participation.
HRS President Arun Kumar Kaliappan said running had the ability to bring people together irrespective of age, background or geography and described the Freedom Run as an example of a sporting initiative evolving into a community movement.
The 15th edition of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 is scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on August 29 and 30, bringing together thousands of runners.
Through the Freedom Run, NMDC and HRS aim to strengthen the link between fitness, community participation and running, and make the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon an inclusive celebration extending beyond Hyderabad.
