Varanasi: Integrate Indian knowledge traditions with modern education: Telangana Governor
Varanasi, Sept 26 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday called for integrating India’s rich knowledge traditions with modern education and scientific learning to prepare the younger generation for the future.
Addressing a seminar on “Bharatiya Gyan Parampara and New Generation: Education, Values and the Future”, organised by Dainik Jagran here, he said education should go beyond employability and focus on personality development, ethical values and social responsibility.
Shukla said India’s intellectual heritage should be made accessible to the younger generation by connecting the knowledge contained in the Vedas and Upanishads, as well as the country’s contributions to yoga, Ayurveda, mathematics and astronomy, with contemporary learning.
He emphasised that values such as integrity, a sense of duty, compassion and responsibility towards nature should be harmonised with a scientific outlook.
The Governor also recalled the contributions of late Narendra Mohan, former Editor-in-Chief of Dainik Jagran and former Rajya Sabha member.
Professor Biharilal Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University; Professor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University; Padma Bhushan awardee Dr. Devi Prasad Dwivedi; and Padma Shri awardee Rajeshwar Acharya were among those present.
