Telangana’s Life Sciences Ecosystem Touches $145 Bn Valuation; Sarvesh Singh as New TLSF CEO*
Hyderabad, May 14 (TNT): Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem has reached an estimated valuation of $145 billion, driven by investments worth over ₹84,000 crore received during the last two years.
The development was highlighted during the seventh Board Meeting of the Telangana Life Sciences Foundation (TLSF) chaired by Industries and Commerce Minister D Sridhar Babu here on Thursday.
During the meeting, Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Shakthi M Nagappan, presented a detailed overview of the sector’s growth over the past decade, with particular emphasis on the rapid expansion witnessed in the last two years under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Sridhar Babu.
Officials said the sector has expanded nearly threefold since 2016, establishing Hyderabad as a major global hub for pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology and health-tech innovation.
They noted that Hyderabad now hosts technology and innovation centres of nine of the world’s top ten life sciences companies, making it the only region outside the United States with that distinction.
According to officials, strong policy support, strategic global partnerships and institution-building initiatives have contributed significantly to Telangana’s emergence as an integrated global life sciences ecosystem.
The Board commended Mr Nagappan for his leadership in shaping and scaling the ecosystem and welcomed the government’s decision to appoint him as Advisor (Life Sciences), while continuing his association with the Board.
Speaking at the meeting, Sridhar Babu said Telangana’s life sciences sector had witnessed unprecedented growth over the last two years due to focused ecosystem-building efforts backed by institutional leadership and policy continuity.
He said the state was entering the next phase of growth through initiatives proposed under the Next Generation Life Sciences Policy.
The Minister also stressed the need to expedite implementation of investment proposals worth nearly ₹20,000 crore related to the proposed Green Pharma City project.
The meeting also introduced Sarvesh Singh as the new CEO of TLSF.
He outlined the organisation’s priorities for 2026-27, including implementation of the Life Sciences Policy and initiatives such as the Telangana School of Life Sciences.
