Telangana to unveil ‘Aerospace and Defence Policy 2.0’ soon; CM Revanth urges investors to double footprint
Hyderabad, Oct 24 (TNT):Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday evening announced that the State government will soon roll out its comprehensive ‘Aerospace and Defence Policy 2.0’ to draw fresh global capital, expand domestic manufacturing capacities, and establish Hyderabad as India’s premier defence technology and R&D capital.
Addressing the curtain-raiser event for the upcoming ‘Raksha Expo’ here, the Chief Minister urged aerospace and defence majors to double down on their existing commitments, assuring industry leaders of friction-free governance, single-window clearances, and proactive institutional support.Reddy stated that the proposed Raksha Expo would serve as a high-powered interface convening global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), defence scientists, armed forces leadership, and deep-tech startups to forge joint ventures and accelerate indigenous defence manufacturing.
Underlining India’s imperative to transition from being one of the world’s largest defence importers into a net exporter of advanced military hardware, Reddy positioned aerospace and defence as cornerstone growth engines for the state’s ambitious ‘Telangana Rising Vision 2047’ roadmap.
“Telangana is targeting a $1-trillion economy by 2034 and a $3-trillion economy by 2047. While our state currently accounts for 2.5 per cent of India’s population and roughly five per cent of its national GDP, our target is to double our contribution to 10 per cent of the national economy by 2047,” the Chief Minister asserted.
Highlighting Hyderabad’s unique strategic military and scientific ecosystem, Reddy pointed out that the capital city houses premier public research laboratories and vital operational establishments of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.
He highlighted the strategic construction of the Indian Navy’s Very Low Frequency (VLF) communications radar station at Damagundam Reserve Forest in Vikarabad district, remarking that landlocked Telangana is actively reinforcing naval capabilities despite having no coastline.
Citing the state’s talent base anchored by premier institutions—including IIT Hyderabad, IIIT, NIT, ISB, and BITS Pilani, the Chief Minister emphasized that initiatives like the newly established Young India Skills University and the modernization of government ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) are purpose-built to supply specialized, industry-ready manpower to aerospace lines.
The curtain-raiser saw high-level participation from key public and private defence giants, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), MIDHANI, Tata Advanced Systems, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bharat Forge, and space-tech startup Skyroot Aerospace.
Reddy also extended a formal invitation to global conglomerates to attend the flagship ‘Invest Telangana Global Summit’, scheduled to take place at Bharat Future City from December 7 to 9.
The summit will spotlight high-growth verticals spanning defence platforms, space-tech, drones, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Dismissing concerns over bureaucratic bottlenecks, the Chief Minister declared that there is “no policy paralysis in Telangana,” affirming that his administration remains steadfast in ring-fencing industrial policy and investor interests from political headwinds.
