Telangana to Set Up International-Standard Sports University, Says Cy CM Bhatti
Hyderabad, June 21 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday announced that the state government will soon establish a world-class Sports University with international standards to nurture sporting talent and help athletes achieve success at the Olympic level.
Speaking after inaugurating the “TG 20 Cricket League” at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government’s primary objective is to identify talented sportspersons from rural areas and provide them with opportunities and professional training.
“Our government’s aim is to identify hidden sporting talent in villages—gems that often remain unnoticed due to lack of opportunities—and equip them with the training and support needed to excel on the global stage,” he said.
Bhatti expressed confidence that the TG 20 Cricket League would serve as a strong platform for sports development in Telangana and contribute to building a bright future for young athletes.
He noted that cricket was once largely confined to urban centres, but the state government has expanded opportunities by identifying talent from every district and forming district-wise teams for the tournament.
“By selecting teams from all districts, we have created a major platform for rural youth. Under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the government is giving top priority to sports and encouraging athletes across the state,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said Hyderabad would soon host a state-of-the-art Sports University equipped with world-class infrastructure and training facilities.
Referring to the sporting legacy of the city, he noted that the Uppal Stadium has hosted several international sporting events and reflected Hyderabad’s capability to stage global competitions.
The government, he said, is working towards building a comprehensive sports ecosystem in Telangana capable of providing Olympic-level training and facilities to aspiring athletes.
The TG 20 Cricket League, which will run for 21 days, is expected to attract sports enthusiasts from across the state and create a festive atmosphere around cricket.
Bhatti assured full support from the state government for the successful conduct of the tournament and reiterated its commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and nurturing young talent.
