Telangana to Emerge as Education and Sports Hub: CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad, June 19 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday said the State Government is committed to transforming Telangana into the country’s leading education and sports hub through comprehensive reforms in education, skill development and sports infrastructure.
Addressing a gathering at the LB Stadium after launching the distribution of Young India Student Kits to 27.50 lakh students and laying foundation stones for sports complexes in various districts, the Chief Minister said the establishment of Young India Integrated Residential Schools and the proposed Young India Sports University reflects the government’s vision of producing globally competitive students and future Olympic medal winners.
Warning that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence was rendering millions of people unemployed, Revanth Reddy said the government has launched large-scale skill development programmes to create employment opportunities and prepare youth for emerging sectors.
He said facilities have been created to impart German and Japanese language training along with English to enhance overseas employment prospects for young people.
Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have been upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs), while a Skill University has been established to transform youth into skilled professionals, he added.
The Chief Minister urged students studying in social welfare institutions to aspire to become doctors, IAS and IPS officers, scientists and political leaders.
“Students should become active partners in the reconstruction of Telangana. The future lies in classrooms and education alone can change the destiny of individuals and society,” he said.
Revanth Reddy criticised the previous BRS government, alleging that it neglected the education sector and failed to increase diet and cosmetic charges for students during its tenure.
He said the present government enhanced these charges immediately after assuming office and revived several government schools that had been closed earlier.
Responding to criticism over the absence of a dedicated Education Minister, the Chief Minister said he had retained the portfolio to personally oversee reforms aimed at delivering quality education to economically weaker sections.
He said the government had introduced pre-primary education in government schools and taken steps to make them competitive with private institutions. As a result, several government schools were witnessing increased demand for admissions, he added.
Highlighting budgetary allocations, Revanth Reddy said the government has earmarked 8.5 per cent of the State budget for education, with Rs 26,600 crore allocated to the sector during the 2026-27 financial year.
“Expenditure on education is not a cost but an investment in future generations,” he said.
Recalling the sacrifices made during the Telangana statehood movement, the Chief Minister said the government remained committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people through quality education and youth empowerment.
He assured students that the government would take responsibility for ensuring access to quality education for every child in the State.
