Telangana to Deposit Rs 2,400-Cr Fee Reimbursement Directly into Students’ Accounts: CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday announced that the state government will deposit Rs 2,400 crore towards fee reimbursement directly into students’ bank accounts in advance from the current academic year, with the amount to be credited within a month of online application.
Unveiling the statues of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule here, the Chief Minister said Rs 250 crore had already been made available for fee reimbursement payments.
He said the new system was aimed at ensuring transparency and preventing colleges from withholding certificates over delays in fee reimbursement.
Revanth Reddy also announced plans to introduce skill development courses from nursery to Class 12, alongside regular academics, stressing that educational certificates alone were not sufficient to secure employment in a competitive job market.
He said the government had established Advanced Technical Centres (ATCs) in 119 constituencies in collaboration with the Tata Group in 2024, with students enrolled in the centres receiving a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000. The centres aim to impart technical skills alongside formal education.
The Chief Minister said Telangana was the first state in the country to conduct a BC census, claiming that the exercise helped establish the exact population figures of the Backward Classes and would facilitate better opportunities and representation for weaker sections.
Taking a dig at the previous BRS government, Revanth Reddy alleged that BC communities had been confined to traditional occupations such as sheep, goat and cattle rearing instead of being provided opportunities for higher education.
He said education should enable members of the BC communities to become IAS and IPS officers, ministers and legislators.
He also said 60 per cent of candidates selected in Group-I recruitment belonged to BC communities, while stressing the importance of education and opportunities for the younger generation.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s focus on sports and said the Young India Sports University had been established to encourage sporting talent.
He cited government employment provided to cricketer Mohammed Siraj, world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen and athlete Deepti for their achievements in sports.
Revanth Reddy recalled the contribution of Jyotirao Phule to social reform and education, particularly his efforts to promote education for women and disadvantaged communities.
He said the state government was seeking to carry forward Phule’s ideals by strengthening education and social consciousness.
The Chief Minister said the government was working to provide quality education and nutritious food to students and asserted that education was essential for achieving self-respect, social recognition and empowerment.
He also said the government had introduced integrated residential schools and was undertaking reforms in the education system with a focus on social equality and inclusive development.
