Telangana posts record Rs 7,865-Cr commercial tax collections in July
Hyderabad, Aug 1 (TNT): Telangana recorded its highest-ever monthly commercial tax collections in July, with the Commercial Taxes Department collecting ₹7,865 crore, registering a 19 per cent increase over ₹6,624 crore collected in the corresponding month last year.
The collections surpassed the previous record of ₹7,598 crore achieved in April 2026, the department said in a release here on Saturday.
GST collections alone stood at ₹4,452 crore in July, up from ₹3,638 crore in July 2025, registering a year-on-year growth of 22 per cent.
The department said the increase followed the robust 19 per cent GST growth recorded during the first quarter of the current financial year.
The state’s total GST revenue, including IGST, CGST and SGST, stood at ₹5,819 crore, reflecting a 19 per cent annual growth. Telangana recorded the second-highest GST growth among states after Haryana, while the all-India growth rate stood at 10 per cent, it said.
The department attributed the strong revenue performance to sustained economic activity, rising investments, expanding business opportunities, improved tax compliance and technology-driven enforcement measures.
As part of a special drive against fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims during July, registrations of 165 taxpayers were suspended, preventing the alleged passing of around ₹300 crore in fraudulent ITC, the department said.
Reiterating its commitment to a transparent and taxpayer-friendly regime, the department said it would continue to encourage voluntary compliance while taking stringent action against deliberate tax evasion. It also thanked 4,61,276 taxpayers who filed returns and paid taxes during July.
