Telangana Police must stay ahead in technology to tackle cyber crime: DGP Anand
Hyderabad, July 24 (TNT): Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Thursday directed police units to strengthen technology-driven policing and improve the state’s performance on national cyber security benchmarks to effectively combat rising cyber crime.
The DGP reviewed the implementation of cyber security initiatives, e-Zero FIR and the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) during a video conference with officers from various police units.
Anand said cyber frauds, particularly “Digital Arrest” scams, had emerged as a major concern and stressed the need for enhanced preparedness.
He said the Government of India was closely monitoring cyber security measures through platforms such as PRAGATI and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
He informed officers that the national cyber security rankings were based on nine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and directed all units to ensure effective implementation of measures to improve Telangana’s position.
Reviewing the e-Zero FIR system, the DGP observed that its implementation in the state was yet to reach its full potential and instructed officers to ensure wider utilisation.
He appreciated the coordinated efforts of T-SPARK and the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TCSB), which led to the registration of nearly 20 e-Zero FIRs within two days.
The DGP said Telangana currently ranked 13th in e-Zero FIR implementation, 18th in Money Restoration with a recovery rate of 46.6 per cent, fourth in GRM performance, 16th in the Sahayog Portal, sixth in the Samanvaya Portal, 16th in social media-related performance, 15th in cyber security parameters and eighth in capacity building.
Anand directed officers to strengthen cyber awareness campaigns, capacity-building programmes and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities among the public.
He also stressed the effective use of CCTNS for cyber crime investigation and policing.
The video conference was attended by Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Director Shikha Goel, T-SPARK SP Rupesh, Cyber Security SP Sai Sri and senior officers from various police units.
